Restoration
The restoration of old instruments, whatever their age, which are listed as protected monuments, follows its own particular path, which, it is true, complicates life for organ builders but is advantageous for the instrument and its future. It is necessary to make an extremely detailed report on the course of the restoration. It must contain the name of the organ builder responsible for the work, other co-workers, the timeframe for the restoration, the name of the builder of the organ and the date, if known, the history of the organ, and information about its builder and any repairs carried out.The report must also contain a description of the organ before the beginning of restoration, the action and specification, information on the origin of individual parts, their condition, air pressure, pitch, temperament, to the extent that this can be determined, voicing, the harmonic characteristics. If anything else is found when the organ is taken apart, it should also be analysed and evaluated. In addition, there is a List of Materials, with a description, a catalogue of newly prepared parts and the reason for their reconstruction, agreement concerning the reconstruction (reference on the register or a meeting with a specialist from the relevant body), examples for copies, additional items and reconstruction, the means of conserving parts which are not repaired and where they are to be found.
The report will also contain a description of all technical steps undertaken, the conservation of wood, its petrifaction, the conservation of the metal, cleaning of pipes, means for removing varnishing, methods of joining using glue or similar materials, methods of affixing leather and wood.
We work as a matter of principle with homogeneous materials of the highest quality. The wood is airtight, the leather is calibrated, the composition of metal for the production of pipes corresponds to the originals. The techniques employed are those which correspond to the construction of the original instrument.
New Instruments
Any new instruments we build are exact or free copies of Renaissance or Baroque organs. The construction involves classical mechanical action, and slider chests. The case is built from hardwoods, and all carvings include design proposals. In the photo section the new organ for the chapel of the Hussite Church in Liberec can be seen. This is based on a Baroque positive from around 1700. We are also of course capable of building a completely new instrument according to the wishes of the customer.
Organ Tuning
As part of the complete restoration we naturally also carry out the final tuning. For old instruments the tin pipes are cut to the exact length and cone-tuned, and the tips ofpipe-feet allow the pipe-foot pressure to match that of the windchests. We generally use tempered tuning, according to the wishes of the customer, or the type and age of the instrument.
Small Repairs and Cleaning
We are also willing to take on small orders, although we prefer bar and slider chests and mechanical action.
